Load Management 101
Load management is the process of curtailing kW load at peak times. Tri-State, PREMA’s power supplier, notifies the Load Management department when to initiate control periods. By curtailing load, PREMA can save a substantial amount of money on the wholesale power bill. This savings is passed back to irrigators that volunteer to participate in the Load Management program. This is money that stays in our local economy.
Load Management uses Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) to get load information. With this information, it allows PREMA to determine the amount of savings by curtailing load. The months of May, June and September are the months that PREMA’s power supplier can contact us to curtail load.
